Re: Unknown mark - <A> I think?
The pattern looks like Gladstone by Amston Silver Co. I've only seen their mark as Amston written in cursive. The company became a division of Ellmore Silver Company c.1940.

Hi, welcome to the forum. You expressed an interest in the paper decal on your pin/brooch. Due to certain design or composition features, many pieces could not be safely stamped with the eagle mark. This could be an item like your abalone pin/brooch. In instances where it could not be safely stamped...

Welcome to the forum. This candlestick was made in Mexico. The mark shown is of Plateria I. Vigueras. I see it has an eagle stamp, but can not make out the number. The correct eagle number should be 35. You state it is marked Sterling, however, I do not see this in your photo (the 925 is legible). F...

Hi, regarding Poland’s silver standards and marks per Tardy and another source: From ~1920 — 1962: Silver fineness: 1 = .940, 2 = .875, and 3 = .800; the woman’s head with kerchief faced to the left, with the silver fineness to the left of the head, and the assay office to the right of the head. In ...

Gorham Tally Mark?
Thank you to this site for the Illustrated Silver Glossary section, which can be accessed here , or from the top of the page under Resources. We have researched the term Journeyman's or Tally mark. Is the CS (?) on this Gorham Sterling bright-cut Chrysanthemum (1885) berry/casserole spoon termed a J...

German Footed Bowl
Here is a footed centerpiece bowl we believe is from Germany. There are two marks on this bowl. We have looked through Tardy's book multiple times, and the first mark looks similar to that of Augsburg. Also, we note that Tardy only shows marks for Augsburg until 1790/1800. Are there further referenc...

This mark is attributed to Plateria Azteca (mark: Azteca and Aztec warrior head). I believe I see an eagle mark of 31. According to Hougart's book, Plateria Azteca's use of (Hector) Aguilar's eagle 31 was supposed to be restricted to those items manufactured on behalf of Hector Aguilar. Your second ...

Thank you all for your responses. kerangoumar — You make some good points. As the design flows from the top cap to the bottom of the piece, I tend to believe the piece was made at one time. If part was added later, it should be hallmarked for a different year. dmay — Thank you so much for your infor...

Sugar Castor Markings
I have a question regarding an English sterling sugar castor we purchased. The hallmarks of the top of the castor indicate this was made in London in 1897. The maker's mark is "C.S over an H", Charles Stuart Harris, London. The hallmarks on the body of the castor are also marked for London...
