Re: salt shakers

Hi Johnny
It is Berne, Switzerland. Atelier Rehfues (Georg Adam, 1784-1858, and Philipp Rudolf, 1820-1866). This combination of (fantasy)-marks was used around 1850-1860

Re: Large spoon marked 800HB

Hi Jannie
The silence, lack of responses (except one by Codirosso) indicates this is not a simple task. I have no 100% proof, missing an exact match, but you can place the spoon with good faith in the late 1800's, central Europe, say Switzerland. Why? The make, type, and the light weight of 50 gramm ...

Re: Swiss cutlery? 1

It is Biel, Switzerland ("Biel" is Swiss German for Axe, German Beil). SW is the maker, however, I do not find a match. The F with crown is a control mark from the city of Berne, also applied to foreign items. Biel only became part of the canton Berne after 1815, before it was semi independent and ...

Yes, Neuchatel, Switzerland.
Maker is Jonas De Belly, 1726-1810, master 1747.
Can we also have here some pictures of the whole item?

Nice find

Re: Swiss cutlery? 3

This is a tricky one. Yes, it looks very much like Lausanne, Papus & Dautun, active from 1760 (1762) to 1793. Both were immigrants from France. However, all the many marks recorded do not bear the crown on top, but either nothing or a 5 pointed star.
See "L'argenterie lausannoise des XVIII et XIX ...

Spoons with this type of shovel are used (here in Switzerland, do not know about other countries) to scoop and measure tea.

Re: What is the function of these two items?

Hi and thank you for your replies
All 3 items have a "800" on the handle. Easy to recognize on the knife, harder to decipher on the other two items.
To the function, Bahner proposed butter and cheese, confirmed by bijoux expert. Aguest calls it cheese / pate spreader, which goes in the same ...

What is the function of the two items? (I am aware the knife is a replacement, but from the shape of the middle cavity in the box I presume the original item was a similar knife.

Re: Silver Cutlery Mark - Can't Find

Hi
You could check out the website of Koch & Bergfeld. They are still active. You will find the pattern name is "Barock", and it is in production since 1916. It also tell you what their maker mark means, you will find it in the section "Hallmarks".
To narrow the age more, you need more clues. The ...

Re: Not sure if it's 19th Hanau or an older German of Swiss item

A Büttenmann, a lot of them are made in Switzerland or attributed to Swiss silversmith. Most of them have the vessel, the Bütte, made of silver and the man is carved from wood. Or also the Bütte is wood only with some silver mounting, decoration. 17th century Büttenmänner are rare, 17th century ...

Small Ladle from 1827, Ship Mark

Dear Forum Members
Can you help me with this small ladle? On the back of the stem we have a nice large mark of a ship and two times punched "C I"?
It is engraved with "C D 1827" and handcut decorations. The bowl is gilded, but the gilding is flakeing off. From the look of the bowl it could be ...

Small knives made from shell or horn, use?

I have these 6 small knives, 15 cm long. They are made of plastic, or tortoise shell, or maybe horn. The handle is very small and short, too small for my hands. The blade is weak.
What are they for?

Thank you

Tea Spoon from Austrian Empire, early 1800

Hi
I found this spoon on a flea market in Switzerland. So there is no context.
It has marks pointing to the Austrian Empire, unfortunately the marks are incomplete. On the Radelpunze, the 13 Lot is visible and the two numbers on the left of the wheel. I read a "1" on the top (as it should be ...
