Need help in identifyingThis marks

Post by TCSilver »

The first symbol looks like a Gorham mark, for the year. Not sure what the last two symbols mean..

Hello, could you be so kind as to take a pic that is a little more in focus?

Also, could you take a pic of the entire item so we could see the entirety of the object?

The marks look sort of English at first glance, but we would need a more focused pic to really figure it out.

They are London hallmarks, not Gorham. There also appears to be faded / worn makers mark next to the lion passant, looks like a H

So it's Sterling 1949, What does the middle symbol mean?

It does look like an H - Which I guess is more research to figure out.

Hi,

That punch is the town mark, in this case the leopard's head, denoting it was made in London.

There is probably more to the makers mark, but has probably worn away, sometimes using a loupe and getting the mark in the right light, you can sometimes see more.

This date letter "o" is 1909, not 1949. The style of the letter H (no serif and fairly open) puts me in mind of one of the sponsor's marks of C S Harris & Sons Ltd, especially as there seems to be something within both parts of the H:

Yes, My wife said their looks to be something above and below the H - I think you nailed it.
