Help identifying where this brooch came from?

Post by Sussexjames »

Good evening all and thank you for taking the time to read this post. I picked up the brooch on the pictures recently and am trying to find out more about it? It weighs a hefty 40grams and has two marks as far as I can see. On the reverse it has the words HECHO EN MEXICO with what I believe is an Eagles head facing left. The word HECHO is above with ENMECIXO beneath. Right at the bottom of the brooch, on the thin edge, 925 is stamped. Unfortunately I can't focus on this with my iPhone camera as it's too small..

Can anyone tell me what I have?

That eagle head mark has no relation to the eagle mark used on silver. This most likely made of alpaca, an alloy with no actual silver in it. Unfortunately many alpaca pieces are falsely marked sterling/925.
