Hi Hose-dk,

Temporarily moving to Russian silver, perhaps someone here can shed some light on this Shebanov/Шебановъ mark.

Regards, Tom

OK, silver on copper means silver plated. However, I have never read, heard or seen any Russian objects showing that the Russians would have used the Old Sheffield Plate process. Russian companies did produced electroplated goods, but that is much later. I don't think this is not OSP but ordinary Sheffield plate i.e. electro plated (EP). Nonetheless, everything is of course possible but still.... not OSP is my humble opinion. Anyway, Hose you are a specialist on EP and OSP. In addition, OSP has some significant signs, look for them, do you find such? Looking on a photo will not reveal enough.

Hi.

These was made by factory of Nikolay Efimovich Shebanov (Николай Ефимович Шебанов). Moscow. Factory was founded in 1830.
Main products was the samovars, tea sets, etc.., produced by silverplate technic.
"Silverplate" is russian "Накладное серебро" ( Laid silver (Cover silver).

For example, its punch:

So it was russian. I was not near russia when i bought the pair.
I gues that they are approx from that time - beginning 1800 ofcause cannot be before establishment of factory.
My first russian item - normally i avoid. Must try to read a litle about thius imperial time. As the pair was found in denmark ,,, well due to the dansih tide to imperial russia many russian ended up here soppose it arrived with them.
They are not common in denmark nor is the design.

My idea of sheffild plate - it dont look like an electro plating. but again the edges are impossible to see due to the manufactoring method.
