Unusual Silver Plate for eggs? Maybe Snails?

Post by SterlingRookie »

Hello everyone, hope all is well. Today I have a pretty unusual silver plate that I picked up recently. Ive looked at this plate for sooo long and unfortunately I can't find a single marking anywhere, however I did acid test the plate and it is indeed silver. Now whether its .800+, 900, or .925 I am not sure as I do not have an X-ray. The plate isn't that large. Weighs around 90 grams and is maybe 6 inches in diameter. The metal is pretty thin and looks to be pressed. From some research, it looks like it could be some sort of India design and definitely has some age. As far as with the divots, maybe it was to hold eggs or snails? Im really not to sure and hope someone might be able to properly identify what this piece was used for!

Hi SterlingRookie,

Try posting some larger images of this piece, it may well help with identification.
