Cast Silver Bowl

Post by juantotree »

Hi

I have put this topic in this section, as the decorative script on this very heavy (for its size) cast bowl looks to be Farsi, Persian or similar, however I stand to be corrected.

There are no makers marks or stamps, the only script being what is forming the decoration itself. Can anybody help me with a possible area of origin for this piece?

Many Thanks
Martin

Hello Martin

Not Arabic/Persian/Urdu or related scripts. Possibly Tibetan? Can you post centered images of each letter?

Thanks

Hello Martin

Thanks for posting the new images.

I am stumped although I still think that there is a Himalayan or Central Asian dimension to this bowl.

If I come across anything relevant, I will post it. By the same token, if you find out something, please add it to the thread

Sorry to draw a blank. Good luck

:::::: Have you checked "Tibetan Singing Bowl" and is it possible that this is white metal or has it been tested for sterling silver content? ::::::

Sorry for the late reply Aguest. I have now had the bowl tested as 925 minimum silver, as for it being a Tibetan Singing Bowl, I am afraid I haven't got a clue, but it could be.

::::: Maybe it is from Nepal and just made for the tourist trade, perhaps it does not make a pleasing sound when struck with a wooden mallet like a singing bowl, as I understand there were many tourists in Nepal during the 1960s and 1970s and maybe it was made for the tourist trade, hope you find out more about it ::::::::
