This tea and coffee service was made in Tabriz, Iran in the late 1960s. It has the marking VIGE and something else on the bottom. Information on type of silver content would be appreciated.
Tabriz/Persian Silverwork, late 1960s
Re: Tabriz/Persian Silverwork, late 1960s
This is a very old post and the photos have been deleted but I think it worth commenting
In the marketplace, there are a number of Iranian pieces stamped VIGE with some speculation that this is a maker's name
The word is ويژه which could be transcribed in Roman script as vige or vigeh. A standard translation is "special"
A google search will likely yield a couple of images with the word in both Persian and Roman script side by side
Generally these items are described as silver but there appears to be uncertainty about whether these items are all silver or whether some might be silver plate or nickel silver. Some are described as late 19th century while others, such as a salt and pepper set and liquor measure, seem more post WWII.
As always, would appreciate hearing from other members
It is unfortunate that these images have disappeared as they contribute to a great resource
