I couldn't find any match when searching armorials of French dukes. Could the crown be that of a marquis instead? In that case there would be leaves alternating with clusters of three pearls. The coat of arms with three lion/leopard heads could be for the family Anzeray who held the title marquis de Courvaudon. The field of their coat of arms is blue which the horizontal hatching of the engraving would indicate. On the other hand their coat of arms seem to feature heads (with neck) of lions/leopards whereas the one here has just faces which might be a meaningful difference. The other coat of arms would be for a wife but I haven't been able to identify it. If you could give some additional info like the age of the spoon it might give some more clues.
Thank you Sasropakis for your insight!
On closer inspection, I agree that it's a marquis' coronet.
Have just looked up the marks and the spoon was made somewhere between 1819 - 1838.
Many thanks,
Luke
I think I could have found a match. The coat of arms with leopard heads could be for the family de Frémont: D'azur à trois têtes de léopard d'or. When searching some information about the family I found some genealogy sites and found the following couple:
Antoine Nicolas Louis Charles (1762 - 1827), marquis de Rosay ✕ (1822) Marie Anne Antoinette Thérèse d'Arros de Beaupuy ( - 1837), marquise de Rosay
The coat of arms of the family d'Arros is: Écartelé : aux 1 et 4 d'or à une roue de six rayons de gueules (Arros) ; aux 2 et 3 d'argent à trois chevrons d'azur. Their main coat of arms which has wheels and chevrons matches the one in your spoon. Also the date of their marriage (1822) matches the spoon.
I'm not sure if I can post the links here but if you search Google with "famille de Frémont" or "famille d'Arros" you should be able to find the same information with pictures of the coats of arms.
Thank you so much! These looks very promising indeed. I'll try to follow up this lead and keep this thread updated with any progress. I guess the main challenge is to understand the relationship between the arms of the 'main' shield and those of the inescutcheon.
