133 Buchanan Street Glasgow
This picture of the shop at 133 Buchanan Street is said to be from 1938.
The sign above the shop proclaims "Davidson,Henderson & Sorley" and there is some information relating to that concern here.

A "moment in time" is indicated by the extra writing under the Davidson, Henderson & Sorley shop title though. It says "Successors to Aird, Thomson & Mackellar"
Not a lot of information was findable on Aird, Thomson & Mackellar, but they did register a silver mark at the Glasgow Assay Office. The "silvermakersmarks" web site, has the spelling "Mckeller" for the concern and dates just 1919 for items seen. I have now noted a tea set dated 1918 and and a very stylish Arts & Craft compote (auction description, tazza) for 1914 (marks to be referred).
Davidson, Henderson & Sorley also had a Glasgow silvermark with items noted from 1930-1942. I found an item hallmarked Glasgow,1922, but in fact they also had a maker's mark registered at Birmingham with items noted from 1924. The address recorded with the registrations was just "Buchanan Street" but it could indicate that Aird, Thomson and Mackellar left 133 Buchanan Street at the start of the 1920s. In fact, Aird,Thomson and Mackellar may not have been at 133 Buchanan Street for all that long.
In the Post-Office annual Glasgow directory > 1911-1912 another firm was listed.
......Aird & Thomson, diamond merchants, gold and silversmiths, watch, clock, and chronometer makers, dealers in antique silver were at 133 Buchanan street
An associated name in this directory was "Aird, Andrew (Aird & Thomson)", house, 28 Herriet street, Pollokshields.
All subsequent trade listings in this post will be from Glasgow Post-Office Directories.
.....1901-1902, and 1889-1890 showed
...........Aird & Thomson, diamond merchants, gold and silversmiths, watch, clock, and chronometer makers, 133 Buchanan street.
Plus associated names
.........Aird, Andrew (Aird & Thomson), house, 28 Herriet street, Pollokshields.
.........Aird, James L. (of Aird & Thomson), house, 14 Royal crescent, Crosshill.
....1886-1887 directory this time listed at 139 Buchanan st
............Aird & Thomson, goldsmiths, silversmiths, jewellers, watch, clock, and chronom. makers
........... Aird, James L. (of Aird & Thomson), house, 14 Royal crescent, Crossbill.
...........Thomson, James (of Aird & Thomson), house, Broomlea, Bearsden.
also there was an Aird, John A. (at A. & S. Henry & Co.'s), house, 14 Royal crescent, Crossbill.???
The 1870-1871 and 1867-1868 directories gave an address of 117 Buchanan St.
.........Aird & Thomson, goldsmiths and jewellers, watch, clock, and chronometer makers.
The 1867-1868 associated names were
........Aird, James L. (of Aird & Thomson), house, 253 Eglinton street
........Thomson, James (of Aird & Thomson), house, 27 Sandyford place.
These were the likely founders, as in the previous year both were working separately, shown below.
........Thomson, James, jeweller (at W. C. Shaw's), house, 27 Sandyford place.
........Aird, James L., jeweller, watchmaker, and goldsmith, 64 Argyle arcade ; ho. 253 Eglinton street.
If James L. Aird was a founder, then was John A. Aird (at A. & S. Henry & Co.'s), the son of that founder? Was "Andrew Aird" (Aird & Thomson) that John A. Aird that was living with at 14 Royal crescent, Crossbill with James L. Aird in 1886-1887?
In 1864-1865 117 Buchanan street had been occupied by Sharp,William, goldsmith, watch and chronometer maker; house,6 Newton terrace, Sauchiehall street.
Also a Shaw, W. C, goldsmith and jeweller, watch, clock, and chronometer maker was at 92 Buchanan street and 12 South Exchange place ; ho. 5 Woodside place.
Interactions of the Aird & Thomson concern being at 117 Buchanan Street and a "James Thomson" formally working at "W. C. Shaw's", could possibly be explained by looking at another Forum post.
