Zilver knitting needle holder, Amsterdam

Post by Vantlicht »

Dutch knitting needle holder marked with the citymark of Amsterdam and some vague marks. Can you make anything from it?

If I had to guess whose master's mark (partly struck-over with Amsterdam town mark) we are looking at here, look just below the Amsterdam town mark, I would go with Anthony de Hoop, active 1767-1785 (deceased). Woman sitting with anchor, you can see her head just right of Amsterdam town mark. He made small silverware, many stamped loderein boxes and needle cases.

Below an example of his mark representing Hope, woman with anchor ( gratitude F.J. Haffmans Kunst & Antiekhandel Utrecht)
