Help on European Cup

Post by Lord_925 »

Not quite sure about where this one came from. Has the several marks as you can see in the photos. The mark 178 looks like it may have had a 0 or something else on the end of it. I could sure use your help.

A quick answer is that it is a Moscow cup from 1780. A very common design, I have run into this design multiple times. These cups were often faked and reproduced, but this looks as it is a real thing. However, only an inspection by a specialist can say this for sure.
Nice cup.

Hi,

Your nice beaker has been controlled by alderman Fedor Petrov and assayed by assaymaster Stefan Elkin in 1780 in Moscow. The silversmith is unknown, he worked until 1798.

Mind my saying, but a minor typo by Juke. The assay master is Stepan Belkin (СБ not СЕ).

Thanks for correcting, I was wondering if the first letter is a ' but as you wrote it is a B (can't get the cyrillic letters here).
