Hallmarks

Post by entrep »

Hi!

I would like to know if there is any place that has the listings for the hallmarks for Mexico 925 silver jewelry manufacturers?

Example TS-108 (number system)

Thank You!

They aren't manufacturers, they are individual artisans, and most of them are unknown. I have a book (Mexican Silver by Morril & Berk) with a large majority of them through 1993 but almost all are small time silver workers who do piece work for large companies. The ones who are a known name usually also use another mark with it that is more recognizable. The system is very haphazard, written in pencil in a notebook, and the list has gaps and many marks are changed, they had one number then it was switched to one or two numbers away for some reason.
TS-108 shows Rosalio Sotelo Damian who used to be TS-110 and Geronimo Sanchez Hernandez with Hernandez now having TS-106.
Basically, it's a waste of time to research the name, it doesn't help the value a bit or give any info about it's history.

Thank you very much for your help.

The main reason I am interested is that I have a wholesale silver jewelry business and am trying to locate manufacturers that produce quality silver jewelry at good prices. I am trying to avoid some of the larger companies and middle men that add additional costs. Do you know of anyone that can help or a company?

There are manufacturers like ATI, AIS, DDD, CII and others but I don't know how you'd contact them. I see their items sold on places like QVC and HSN. They aren't always the greatest quality and the vast majority of newer mfgrs use faux/dyed stones that people don't realize aren't real. I see them listed as genuine all the time.
