Given the dimesions may be of assistance but, it appears from the image that the ends of the split ring were made to fit into some thing.

Only a guess sorry.

hello .i find what is the object ,is a ,,fibula'' or a cloakpin but she have the pin missing,a old silver craftman help to repaire the pieces and is now complet and beatiful
