Sterling Spoons - Odd mark

Post by godsong02 »

I have five of these spoons that were passed on to me by my mother and we are trying to identify their history. any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated!!!

Although it appears to say STERLIN in the second image, some of the other spoons have evidence of a G also being on the end. Either it was poorly stamped or just worn down over time.

The mark looks like Whiting; check here: http://www.925-1000.com/americansilver_W2.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The spoon itself almost looks like its handle has been replaced, but that's just a guess.

Dirksen often used blanks provided by other manufacturers, though it could certainly have been done by another filigree worker.

Thanks for the helpful information. I love these beautiful little spoons, it's very neat to try and track down their history! This gives me a great place to start my research
