I believe this is called a brandy spoon? The year date seems to be a k which would be 1894. There is a very worn inscription on the frontpiece of the handle which looks like 1896 (this is the best picture I could get.) The letter on the Minerva's helmet is only half visible, but my closest guess is F for Leeuwarden - but it could be several letters. My question is whether or not anyone recognizes the maker's mark. I checked that one site everyone goes to zilver.nl, but it wasn't there. Is this hallmark familiar to anyone? Thanks!
Hi All,
Sometimes also called:
DUTCH BRANDY SPOON; this type of dutch spoon was used to serve the raisins (boerenjongens) from the bowl with brandy(brandewijn); it has a hook at the back, to hang it on the edge of the brandy bowl
