teapot puzzle - id help needed

Post by tonyatl »

with nothing but a sterling stamp and some numbers, is there any way to id the maker of this pot? i would think not, but perhaps someone familar with this type of article would have some suggestions based upon construction or design.

i assume that it is american given the sterling stamp but one eBay guide states that some irish sterling was so marked during the 18th / 19th c. although i am not certain whether it would still have hallmarks. if it is american why would it have such a strong georgian design? i know that people reproduce, but it is practically identical to a period production not showing any modernizations which most reproductions have.

would the absence of a maker mark favor older or newer production? i am thinking the former.

there is a filter inside at the base of the spout.

after more study, a c. 1920 - 45 dating is also possible but i still think of the design as georgian. my major objection is that the closer to the 20th c the more likely that manufactured goods were marked and branded.
