Date on small Reed and Barton Spoon

Post by calisto818 »

Hi -
I have a small Reed and Barton spoon,, based upon the hallmarks that I found on this web page. There is also a date on the back of the spoon, but there is nothing on the web page to indicate that pieces would have a date. Therefore, I wanted to ask if the date on the spoons is valid.

Thanks for any information that you can provide.

Cheers,
Carla

P.S. I am sorry that the spoon is cut off - I have reduced its size by half but it does not make a difference when it opens here.

Welcome to the forum. It appears that your spoon is in the 1895 La Marquise pattern. It seems reasonable that the date might apply to a patent filing. I do not know how long the La Marquise pattern was produced, so I can't help with narrowing down a date for when your spoon was made, but may someone else can.

Thanks for the information, silverly. I'll try to find someone else who has an item of this pattern to see if it has the same date stamp.
