Evening Postnikov,

As you said there are cons and pros for the authenticity as well for a forgery. Shall we put the church in the middle of the village and say that 50/50 and close the case. I don't think we can gain much more out of it.

PS. The weather forecast is all the time yelling warnings for an approaching blizzard.

Thanks for all replies!
I have had a better look at the inside of the rim, but no more stamps are to be found.
So, it seems to be difficult to conclude - apart from the fact that the item is not what I would have bothered to fake ;-)
The quality of the items in the images from Postnikov looks to be superior to mine, as my box is both repaired and also worn and dented. I would have expected a fake item to be of better quality? It wouldn't be possible to get a price covering the work effort and material costs?
Anyway, it's a nice item to keep.
I will also have to monitor this forum to see if any similar items shows up.

Regards, Jan Erik

Hi -
be confident, your box is worn, bruised and battered, 129 years old, someone cared to repair the dented corner - but it is authentic! Next time you maybe find a "better exemplar".

Postnikov

Sure - I'll absolutely be on the lookout for niello items from now on!
But, I'm not very optimistic as to find a similar item at a similar price.
