I may just be seeing something that's just not there, but the lower one looks similar to this to me:



There are several similar crests to be found and I guess it is probably too worn for a positive ID.

I completely missed the June posts on this thread until now.

The fiddle pattern arrived in Ireland circa 1800 so at least the salt shovels would seem to eliminate John Irish (1748-1780) from being the mystery maker with initials IRH. As to who IRH is however, I'm no wiser.

If it is stamped JRH that was my great grandfathers hallmark.

Was there any update to IRH? Here is a set of 3 fiddle pattern salt spoons marked IRH STER. I find the John Irish attribution one of the most tentative attributions I’ve come across, It just doesn’t fit.
