Good Morning,
Try not to polish the corner you may wind up taking off too much of the patina. A little warm water and a soft cloth to start, let dry then reshoot. If that does not work take a well chewed wooden toothpick with a small amount of silver polish then gently work inside the lines of the mark only. In this instance less is more. And believe me that many of these ladies and gentlemen have examined thousands of partial and damaged marks. But at is not a guarantee of success. They will do the best they can to identify what is there.
Good luck

Hi Warren I've done it using only a soft cotton cloth and warm water. : )
Its too bad 15 years or so ago I polished them and worked hard trying to get the black out from inbeteen the details..big mistake..butthe darkness is coming back.
Here is a good shot of the corner..again I press IMG on Photobucket,IMG box above & where the blinking line is I insert..and I get full links
instead of pictures. Ive tried cutting ends off but something is wrong.
So here are the pictures.

Well here is the best image I could pull from the images you took. I see very little hopefully someone can identify something from it. There does seem to be vertical file marks, appears someone was trying to ascertain whether it was silver. We still have the two other marks, I see grapes. Then there is the CS and/or CP mark.
Good luck
Warren

good morning,
Blowing up the CP allows me to see that the upper and lower tips of the C are slightly raised. The back of what clearly looks like a P appears to have an excess of material almost like a double strike. It's almost conjoined with the lower tip of the C. That is why it looked like an S.
It is actually easier for you to photoshop that image from your side. Crop the image into two then sharpen each, not too much it will distort it. Then check resize to make sure it's not too large or small. Again the largest figure can not be larger than 600. Also do not click the replace image box when saving. Post the links, I'll grab it from there.

Hi.Warren I am no good with the computer image shaping & gave up.
Admittedly even the common terms I dont understand (we bought our first computer just 4 years ago and are way behind.)
An English antiques dealer in metals for 42 years says he believes they are Augsburg
and a German Auction house says the marking on right is Cornelius Poppe but
though form of candlesticks is correct the amount of decoration seems odd..(or something like that) ..
