I have a coffee pot. On the bottom is the Maker's mark (J.S) which I take as Jonathan Swift. I can find only one other mark, on the inside rim of the lid, a London mark. I am unable to find a date mark. Where should I expect to find all the marks?
I am told that the depousse was added in the 19C. A silver handle was added. The handle has 3 marks: (1) a Victoria Duty Mark; (2) a London mark; and (3) a Maker's Mark (SC), which I believe would be Stuart Clifford. Would the smith making alterations add their marks as I have indicated? Should a date mark for the alterations also be found? Could the alterations have deleted any of the previous marks?
