The trademark "SF" is Sanglier Freres, the trademark "VS" is Victor Sanglier. Both firms working at 12 rue de Enghien in Paris. I have no dates of operation, but pieces I've seen by them date to the very late 19th C. and well into the 20th century.

well thank-you for that. Iv'e been searching the hallmark site all afternoon in despair !
Here are photos of the 2 pieces. One is a large tray from my great grandmother's which has got just the VS mark on it (the inside is a mirror supported by the silver tray frame) :
and the other is what I would call a bread basket from my grandmother's:
This is the one with both the SF & VF marks.
None have any hint of a date unfortunately.

This is late but I'll post anyway. Victor Saglier produced silver from the 1870s to 1894. In 1894, his two sons took over the business, which produced silver plated items under the name of "Saglier Freres" until, I believe, the 1920s, and then under a successor until 1947.
