Odd shaped spoons

Hi. I recently inherited a set of silver spoons and thanks to this site and others I have managed to work out what the hall marks mean (if i deciphered them correctly).
Theyre made by Joseph Elliot and sons and electro plated. I haven been unable to find much more information about him on the internet or in the local library and the case has no information what so ever. I might have more luck at the main library in town but I dont like my chances of finding anything.
Anyway, the spoons look bent and if it was just one of them I would think it was damaged, but all six are bent in the same way and I have been un-able to work out what they could be.
Is it just how they made teaspoons back then or do they serve a specific purpose?
Thanks for your help!
