But your idear seems as a good possibility to destroy silver.
Hand polish is the proper way to clean antique silver.

a local "antique shoppe" owner, 85, always has everything scrubbed and grazed and is gone over with a flame thrower and then buffed, after which some of the things appear to be coated with a lacquer. makes my teeth curl.

if you read any of the excellent recommendationas on cleaning silver you will see that it doesn't take much work and the result will be splendid.

Hi Buff-

Here is a great article found here on this site for caring for your silver items:

http://www.925-1000.com/aPolish.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I hope you do not ruin what you have, the persons that have answered your post so far have alot of knowledge that I would take to heart.

Regards - Byron
