Hi all, i beg if you could help me to identify marks on this antique silver (833/1000) Dutch tray. The tray has this dimensions: 10 3/4" x 8 1/4" x 0 3/4" (h). It weights 500 grams ; 16.075 troy ounce. The date mark (w) should be 1830(?) The Minerva Head the duty mark (?) The lion passant should be silver purity 1000/833 (?) The maker mark (HR*1*) (?) looks a mystery to me... Thank you!

Exactly: the second standard (.833) lion and (close!) the year letter “W” for 1831.

The maker’s mark is that of Hermannus Ridder (later Weduwe [Widow] Hermannus Ridder), working in Groningen 1812-1859. (This mark, however, was used only 1830-1833.) Also, I think I can make out the letter “E” in Minerva’s helmet, which was the letter for the Groningen assay office.

Hi blakstone, i appreciate your help. In which part of the Minerva (Helmet?) i've to check the letter? Maybe at daytime (i live in Italy +1 GMT) i can re-shoot another macro picture enlarging the Minerva and see.. Do you have any useful link to suggest me in order to control different kinds of letters in the Minerva or do you have any other suggestion? Greetings from Rome...!

I re-checked the Minerva and blakstone you were right! There's an outstanding E letter on the upper right of the helmet! So all i can say is GOT IT! By the way do you like the tray? Cheers!
