Can anyone help identify this mark? I don't know whether this item is sterling or plated. I believe it is Art Nouveau/ Deco era. The only other marks on it are "Paris, France" on the back. I haven't seen any French hallmarks that look like this.

Hello

I’m not specialised in French objects — in my collection I’ve also some French decorative metal objects.

It seems to me you are a «novice» - that isn’t any mistake! All members in «925-1000» forum are or were «beginners». That’s life and hope — later you could give back.

I don’t know if you own «TARDY’s»? My I’ve still in my Spanish archive. But I remember that in «TARDY’s» explicit and profound is explained where on an object which kind of silver alloy mark, “contre marque”, assay mark and makers mark has to be placed and later could be found. That information is printed on at least some 5 pages.

The here shown object is definitely not silver alloy — maybe not «Plated» too!

«PARIS, FRANCE» is a “made where mark” like «MADE IN GERMANY» - but this couldn’t be true too! The lid’s hinge is maybe made or maybe mounted in France? I guess the object is a lady’s powder compact?
Shell isn’t «Art Nouveau» neither «Art Déco» - its shape is 1960 — 1970 or later. Maybe chrome? Or another metal which surface is polished?

The decorative element — looks like «Art Nouveau» - has «Flower Power» colour composition scheme by 60th 70th.

See this as an investment in your future expertise! Use it — or donate it to yours show case of «nice to see» objects.

Kind regards silverport
