Hi Folks,
So far I have worked out that this crystal glass with silver rim dates from pre 1822 (crowned leopards head and lion rampant) but I am stumped regarding the makers mark. Can anyone decipher it?
Looks like 1786 year mark to me...
Thanks
Kenny

Although the photos are not clear enough to give a definite date I am afraid I must disagree with 1786 dating.
There is no George Head duty mark. The sponsors (makers) mark looks very much later than the 18th century in form
The Leopards Head does look crowned, but I'm sure isn't.
The Lion Passant has the two indents and straight sides only seen 1896 to 1936 - to which stylistically the piece belongs, probabably at the later end .

Hi Kenny,
I'm with Buckler on this one, looks like 1906, but would need a clearer image to be sure.
I can't see the first letter on the maker's mark. What is it?
Regards Trev.

Hi Trev and Buckler,
Thanks for your assistance. I have tried to take a clearer image (attached) to pick out the makers mark and the "leopards head" - If its not a leopards head the only other thing that it resembles is the Irish harp.
Could be irish crystal I guess...
Thanks for your help.

Hello.
I believe that's WHS for William Henry Sparrow.
Located in Birmingham, but also entered this mark in London and Chester.
Birmingham mark was entered in January of 1903.
Not certain when the London and Chester marks were entered.
Pat.

Hi Pat,
I can see that WHS for William Henry Sparrow is probably the match - many thanks.
Thanks for all the help provided.
