WMF teastrainer ~ Help finding era of hallmark?

Hello,

I found the WMF Germany hallmark on the German page, but my hallmark is somewhat different on the tea strainer. It is not quite like the hallmark noted from 1900. Could you anyone date the hallmark for me?

Thank you in advance for your time and assitance! It is greatly appreciated.

Cordially,
Mary Anne

Hi,
Your piece is of recent vintage, WMF is still in business and producing items similar to yours and using the trademark illustrated. I'd suspect your item is stainless steel rather than silverplate.

Thank you for your information. I think it is silverplate though, as it took me quite a while to polish it and I still am not done. It was absolutely black when I got it from a woman who is 81. She said that she has owned it so long she can't recall when or where.

Have they used that mark for a long time? I found another mark similar on eBay and they said the 30's to the 40's. Could it have gone back that far?

Thanks again for your assistance!
Cordially,
Mary Anne

Hi,
The mark may well go back that far, but I don't think the use of a screen mesh basket does. I really don't recall seeing them before the 1960's. 'Course that's just my opinion, so let's see what others have to say.

Hi

The mark was used from 1935 to 1965 according to a WMF publication,
"150 Jahre WMF" ( German for 150 years WMF) on page 104.

Take care,
Mike
