I found this beautiful piece by Leonore Doskow and I can't decide if its a votive stand or a placecard holder or something totally off the wall. Its about 3.5 inches high with a flat round disc as a base. Any thoughts?

Perhaps it is just an optical illusion, but little upcurved bit where the handle joins the round has me thinking it is a little spatulate serving piece that has had its handle bent up.

I agree with Tom. If that were meant to be its origional shape, it would be so much cleaner and easier to make to solder the wire directly to a round base. The upturned edge of the base circle is very awkward looking and un-necessary. What kind of marks are on the piece? looks very "country crafted".

Its just got the makers name (Leonore Doskow) and "sterling" I think you may be right about the bent edge, but what would it serve?

She did a lot of personal care type items, just saw a sterling toothpaste tube roller by her recently, as well as vanity items and even fancy golf tees and markers as well as jewelry.
She was kinda like an earlier, more expensive version of Lillian Vernon.

She also did small serving pieces, I've seen small serving forks, canape picks and ice tongs and there is an illustration of a tea strainer on stand in "Modernism in American Silver" (Dallas Museum).

With due respect to Lillian Vernon, other than marketing sense and understanding a desire for personalized items, can't say that I'd equate the two. Leonore Doskow was a designer and silversmith whose handcrafted works have appeared in reference books and museum exhibits, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, with items from her company stocked by high end retailers.

I didn't mean it as a jab, just that LD made a lot of personalized/personal pieces like LV sells so it may give a clue as to what the item is.
