It looks like an ashtry it is about 6 1/2 inches across but does not have indents for cigs to sit in. It has markings on the top rim, not on the bottom as usuall. I have searched the site and not found anything, so I am asking all you forum friends for help.

The markings are , the 1st one is intials R,G in an open book shading behind. 2nd is the lion with head facing forward, black background in rectangular box. 3rd is a large cats head with big whiskers on a black background in a rectangular box, 4th is a rectangle with an s with a shaded black background.

Very sorry not to have a pic, but my new camera is not good enough for close ups of markings.

Thank you ahead of time as I am learning

Your piece is British silver assayed in London in 1953. RG is the maker's mark.

Thank you for the response, do you happen to know the name of the maker by any chance. I have been searching everywhere for the initials RG and can't seem to find anything. Thank you.

Hello, it is very hard to decifer maker's mark for pieces after 1950. My book is not recent enough and proper listings for recent period has not yet been made.
Best Regards. Myriam
