Close Plate Mystery Mark

Hi,

Can anyone identify this close plate maker?

Above is the way up you would expect the mark to be found on a knife blade. Maybe that last letter is an 'B'.

But this way up seems to make a little more sense. Perhaps the first two letters are 'EA'.

The two 'J's, if indeed that's what they are, are somewhat reminiscent of the two 'J's that are sometimes encountered stamped onto the work of the Jersey silversmith Jacques Quesnel.

Marks found on an 8" dessert knife.

Hallo! First post. Could this be an unregistered mark of the Birmingham plater Joseph Shepard ? The J may be a human ear! The other mark may be the ear mark overstruck with another. davesays

Hi Davesays,

Welcome to the Forum.

Yes, I see where you're coming from. It's certainly food for thought.
