I did some research but am not very well qualified, it looks like the FB might be an English mark, but it doesn't seem to have any of the other associated marks, also there is a 7 mark which I'm unsure of. I've provided a good photo and any help appreciated.

In your case the non precious material, but nearly invisible part for controls, is the torsion bar spring in hinges tube, holding the cigarettes case two main flaps.

For to could handle a cigarettes case, by only one hand to be “free”, and for to could offer to others in a gesture of elegancy a cigarette, it was necessary to build in a spring mechanism, who opens already by “one touch” only.

The main advantages of a torsion bar spring is their durability; and their slim profile in the dimension of the hinge. She needs less of the item's interior or exterior volume, in comparisions to other springs systems, like e.g. coil springs. A torsion bar spring is like as a “normal” bar, who fits the two parts of a hinges area together to a functional hinge.

One end of the torsion bar spring is fixed on one end of the, let me say lower end of left hand flap; the other end is fixed on the upper end of the right hand flap.

Many claims were made, to be the inventor — maybe all were smokers? But in the Patent Registry Offices were smokers as well.

Yes its magnetic and it does spring open on its own. Nobody has mentioned what the 7 mark on the case is, its away from the other marks.

7 could be a FB internal workers indication number only.

Sorry that Nobody has answered your already from begin on mentioned question on the signification of the cipher 7.

I could guess only, that it is a numerical worker’s indication — e.g. for payment, or maybe also for quality control?

If there were more combined numerals, like three, or four, or five, then it’s in general often an indication of model number; some times only a number of individual order, or repair.

All the other products from Frantisek Bibus Company, of that time (1929) have a model number of 4 ciphers — it doesn’t matter, if they were Plated, or Solid Silver. There were some different forms of indication; so nobody could be in danger of confusion — also if he were blind totally.

By the way, until the WWII, Frantisek Bibus was the almost best Czech factory of high grade Silver ware, and Plated wares as well.

Frantisek Bibus hollowware before and after WWI was often of such amazing stylistic appearance that objects of »Wiener Werkstätte« are like twins.

Also for reason that I’m a live long No smoker, I couldn’t tell you more in relation to yours cigarettes case; accept this: The elastics and their specially formed clips, which prevented the falling out of cigarettes, are missing.
