OT...by a pit but related...reliable Pewter maker marks site

Hi All,

I am researching several fun old pieces of British silver. One is a really nicely made piece from Birmingham by S.Bros that I still have some date code questions about and the other is a really nice watch case for a key-wind pocket watch. But those should be managed well enough in your other forums.

It dawned on me there might be some side interest in other metal pieces, especially pewter as there could be a fair amount of maker overlap. So I thought I would ask if anyone has recommendations for a reliable site/boards where I can try and research a piece I have. I will also admit I am completely out of my comfort zone when it comes to these old pewter items so I end up gleaning almost any site that claims to be for pewter reference only to find it's only modern pieces or 20th C. or so and my piece is pretty much 18th C. or earlier. I feel 17th. C. is likely about right...and the mark, well it should be distinctive, then again, given the degree of less than useful info I have found elsewhere maybe it's not as obvious as I originally imagined.

Soooooo, short story long...any recommendations on sites? And if this sort of question is too far OT, sorry about that and just whack the post....consider it a "rookie error of enthusiasm". ;)

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

Check this site out: http://www.pewtertankardsflagons.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It's one that's growing all the time and well worth checking back on from time to time for updated information.

Hello.

I do have several good British pewter books.
If you send pictures of the marks to me, I will try to help.
