Austro-Hungarian Maker's Mark ID Help Needed

Hello, I have a set of silver with the Diana Head mark of the Austro-Hungarian Emprire (and Austria) from after 1872. I think I can make out the "A" for Vienna, which would make sense given who I inherited these from. She came from Vienna originally.

There is a second mark and I am hoping it is a maker's mark someone can help me identity. Thanks very much! Zabette.

Heinrich Ecker, of Jarosinski & Vaugoin, Vienna

Hello »Zabette«

Welcome to the Forum.

The maker’s mark you search for is that of Heinrich Ecker, of the Vienna cutlery and silver wares factory Jarosinski & Vaugoin.

For reason of the »3 Diana A« mark, the cutlery was assayed until 22 April 1922from 1930 on the shown mark became to be the main mark of Jarosinski & Vaugoin.

Kind regards silverport

Silverport, thank you so much! Is this information something that is available in a reference book? Could you share with me which reference book you found this in? I would be very grateful.

Also, since my first post, I have inspected the silverware and found a second maker's mark on some of the pieces. That mark is the letters A K in a rectangular cartouche (see photos below). Is this the same company just a different person? Perhaps this pattern was made over a number of years and different pieces purchased at different times...all very interesting. Now, I need to find more of it!

Thank you again so very much. Zabette.

A-K = in Vienna not registered retailer’s mark

Hello »Zabette«

The additional A-K mark is a not in Vienna registered retailer’s mark — the form of the cartouche (circled segments on left and right side) is either not in conformity of the Austro-Hungary maker’s mark system.

This additional A-K mark is an over stamp — you could see that in yours first image the base of the original maker’s mark of Heinrich Ecker. It seems that the punch in his dimensions is made especially there fore, to could over stamp also larger maker’s marks.

The reference on Heinrich Ecker/Jarosinski & Vaugoin I have taken from Waltraud Neuwirth:

Chalice mark of »Jarosinski & Vaugoin« = numb. 2371 (vol. II, p. 371; detail in vol. I, p. 273)
Chalice mark of »Heinrich Ecker« = numb. 2372 (vol. II, p. 371; detail in vol. I, p. 160)

»Heinrich Ecker« (detail from vol. I, p. 160):

So it seems that it was cooperation between Heinrich Ecker and Jarosinski & Vaugoin, to produce with 18 employees, from 1908 on, cutlery in Vienna, Zieglergasse 24.
