help!!!

Post by larrywseale »

I found an interesting (to me anyway) hand made coin dish & I'm at a loss regarding region, maker & age. It seems to me that it has an early Americas influence, and as always, I turn to the experts when I'm stumped. I posted here since I have no idea if it's US southwest, Central or South America. Perhaps a tourist piece?

I've also taken pictures of the "glyphs" that decorate the dish on the off chance that they actually have meaning and are not just designs the maker liked. Thanks -larry-

Pretty typical decoration for 20th century Bolivian silver, I had a coin-centered ashtray with similar motifs.

Hi Larry,

Thanks for posting this question. I have some coin (0900) pieces with this same mark - a cigarette case and napkin ring. I bought these from a woman who was selling a whole group of coin and sterling silver pieces. They belonged to her mother that received them as wedding gifts in 1949 when she married a man from Bolivia. I have search and search for the name of the maker, but have not be able to determine the manufacturer. If you find anything please post and I will do the same.

Thanks again,
Daniel

Hi Daniel:

I'm afraid we're at a dead end. Bolivia is a major silver producer and it looks like there are many craftsmen who eke out a living producing knick-knacks for the tourist industry. I think we can narrow it down to Bolivia but I'm afraid we'll never know who used the mark or when it was used.
