These hallmarks are unknown to me. Who does recognise these?

Hi Bert,

The mark with; 2 above T, perhaps could be a date letter for the city of Groningen and if so perhaps for the year 1744.
The figure mark; two arrows crossed could be a maker’s mark. ‘Citroen’ mentioned; arrows (2) for Groningen as, unidentified 1732…..
I have no reference to confirm date letter or maker’s mark and can’t give any guarantee. You know, we also could look at a pair of pseudo marks, oh dear. Sorry

Regards,

Oel.

Hmm.. are you sure about the years? In the Groninger archive is the collection of Ms. de Visser, she has done research on silversmiths 1350-1955 in Groningen. According to these notes:

But that would be so early, for such a nice piece. This indeed have to be pseudo marks. According to the owner is was made in Alkmaar, but certainly that is not correct.

Hi Bert,

Yes, the city of Groningen also used letter T in the year 1650 but I also looked for the maker’s mark, the 2 arrows, which according to ‘Citroen’ has an entry as of 1732…
As far as I know Alkmaar used a different form of date letters. Perhaps some of the other forum members could be more helpful, let us wait and see.

Regards,

Oel

Hi all,

The form of the spoon isn't known for Groningen. But the datemark sure looks like the date 1648/1649 according to Groninger keur uit, Zilver uit Stad en Ommelanden; 1997; Jean-Pierre van Rijen.
The makersmark, if it is a Groninger maker, doesn't fit that year.
So: form, year and maker don't fit together.
Probably not genuine.

Regards,

Zilverik

Hi all - Citroen lists 2 over T as a possible psuedo mark. Item 600 in "Valse Zilvermerken in Nederland" 1977. Regards John

Thanks.
I'am sure this is a pseudo mark.
