Garnet Brooch - But What The Heck is Norm??

Me Again -
This time a pyrope garnet brooch from my aunts treasures. I am pretty sure it is German since she lived there for some time. I know it is probably made within the last 75 years (perhaps less) since it has one of the early rollover locking pins.
I have acid tested the gold and it tests as above 9ct. And I have found a tiny mark impressed into the back of the metal setting.
It is pretty clear under macro on my camera and says simply 'NORM'.
I'm trying to find out what that is with regard to quality of gold or not. I have added tinypic images of the front, the back and the mark.
Hope someone can point me in the right direction to learn more. Thank you in advance to everyone who is able to help.
Kind regards
Julie
