Old Princeton University - Sterling Marker?

Hello All,

I ran across the following item with the Princeton University seal on the front. It looks very old, and I have tried to find the mark myself going through the American Hallmarks section. If you can help me determine the maker of this Sterling, I am hoping it can help me date this piece. Also, I would learn from the process. -- Kenscott

Hi Kenscott,

The eye shaped contour with in the middle the Princeton University shield. The pictorial maker’s mark … Masonic eye/symbols?

Oel,

No, I do not see anything which resembles a Masonic eye symbol. This being said, I did purchase a nice
loupe today and will be taking a closer look at the actual Princeton emblem.

I will try to get a larger scan of it to make it easier to view.

Right now, I am trying to determine the maker of the bracelet. The larger picture shows a silver hallmark
above the Sterling mark. I have not yet ran across it here on the page, but am hoping to. Might you know
who the hallmark is assigned to?

Thanks,

Kenscott

Hi Kenscott,

No, I checked my references but no match. Let us wait and see what the other contributors may come up with.

Hello.

I'm wondering if that might be an early mark of Katz & Ogush ?
Seems like the type of item they would have made.

I tried to find out what I could about Katz & Ogush after reading your reply.

What I have read shows them doing work in gold, platinum, and diamonds. I have not found
anything yet showing their work in silver or additional hallmarks.

So, it will take more research. I will try to update this when I find something more out.

Thanks for the info.

Okay, I can now say I have scanned every major section of this web page trying to determine who's
hallmark this is.

I have yet to find it. So, now to take a different approach.

Sorry about that. My memory isn't what it used to be.

Thank you for the information. Based on the thread, yes, I do think we now have the maker.

The Kinney company is the next research subject for me. Maybe I can find which types of the
mark were used and their respective times. This will help me date the piece.

I am so glad you were able to identify this. I had looked on just about every web page I
could find to no avail.
