Hello, quite a lot has been said here on Fraget and the marks we see. Use the "search" box to find the posts. The pattern is modeled after the German WMF pattern No. 25 (after 1919 renumbered to No. 200) which came out ca. 1911 and was produced until the 1950ies. Best wishes, Bahner

Should you consider this an antique? That depends on how old you are. Objects I grew up with are appearing in antique shops with increasing frequency but I will never consider them to be antiques. As for polishing your piece, go right ahead! Use a gentle silver polish such as Hagerty's Silver Foam or Wright's Silver Cream, or other non-abrasive silver polish. Do NOT, and I repeat, do NOT use a dip. Dipping solutions miraculously remove tarnish instantly; unfortunately, they also remove much underlying silver. Alas, the tarnish will come back, but the silver won't.
