Hello,

My brother bought a ring at an estate sale today and we are not familiar with the maker's mark. The ring is Birmingham, I believe 1976. Can anyone tell me more about the maker's mark RJC? Any other info about the ring would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, B Ran Don, for your contribution. Can you tell us please where you found this information. I googled "Responsible Jewellery Council" and found their web page which tells me that they were founded in 2005. In addition they don't seem to be the sort of organisation which actually produces and sells jewellery.

The Responsible Jewellery Council, along with Fairtrade International and the Alliance for Responsible Mining certify that gold from certain mines meets a legal, social, and environmental standard. Jewelers who want to be able to trace their supply to its origin and thus remain environmentally friendly will pay a premium above the market price of gold to ensure the origin. The premium is reinvested at the source to maintain higher living standards, etc. for those working at the sharp edge of the industry.

The Responsible Jewellery Council (whose certification covers from refiner to retailer) was formed in 2005 and thus cannot be represented by the 'RJC' punch applied to this ring.
