Hi, Theoderich.
It's not Jitomir. It's Riga.

It is a Jewish goldsmith
[HS] = Herz Schiff
(engl. heart ship)

I've gone through all what I have regarding master HS in Riga. I found one lousy prospect. He could be Herz Schiff but unfortunately he is a bit younger. He is known to have marked around 1890 and that's all. Maybe he marked already then

Thanks Zolotnik, I saw it earlier. The only thing is that there is a gap of over 10 years. But Yes, it is possible...That is the only of my sources where any HS in Riga is mentioned.

??? Mind my asking, who is he?
There is only one Georg Heinrich Schmidt i Riga (not Jelgava, look at the town mark!)
He was born 1814 and died 1893. He marked 1849-1893. His mark was GHS and not HS.
However, there were other Schmidts in Riga too like
August Gottfried 1815-1833
Joachim Emil 1874-1914
Johann Jacob 1809-1849 (born in Jelgava 1783)
but they have nothing to do with this. It is without any doubts the mentioned Herz Schiff
