Hi, Here's a padlock with what appears to be a London mark and date code 'R' I can't seem to id. The 'R' isn't matching any of the charts I have. Any information appreciated.
marks: ET+ , STG, (possibly) London mark, 'R' . No lion on the hallmark instead it's marked STG.

Hi Ejenie,

ET + could be the mark of the importer and STG could be short for sterling, kindly show us a clear image of the third mark, the shield before the R.

Oel.

Thanks for looking at it. Yes, maybe an import mark. I'm not really sure.

Hi,

ET+ could be the mark of the Dutch importer; E. Tiessen, registered in Amsterdam during 1924/1936

The other marks I do not believe to be British and neither are the marks Dutch.

Best,

Oel

Yes, I see the similarity of the ET+ Tiessen mark. Thanks for pointing that out. That said the 'R' may not be so significant. Thanks so much.

Hello ejenie,

I am never really sure when it has been too long to offer a reply but I am compelled to comment on this post, that just popped up in a search, because it is a bit off track.

This mark is from South Africa. ET+ is the maker, STG is for sterling, the blob of a mark to the right of the STG is a lion's head within a U and is the country mark for silver used from 1948-1998. The final mark, the R, is the date letter for 1963.

Hope that helps.
