Hi, you need to post some clear close-ups of your marks - but I can make out enough to see that they're Italian rather than German.

Hi Thanks Cheryl,

I can't seem to get larger photos. The one dog is marked J R, then an Ax pointed left and I think there is one other mark. On the other dog, the mark appears to be a compass? Or perhaps a sextant?

Most digital cameras will have a macro function (look for little flower symbol), but if yours doesn't, try taking a pic through a loupe or other magnifying lens, or perhaps a drawing might help. As it is, even enlarging and manipulating your current pics doesn't help much, and since individual perception differs, verbal descriptions of what the marks look like to you might be entirely off-base. What does seem clear is that your last picture shows 20th century Italian marks, hard to tell, but appears to be Fascist era (1934-44).

Do you see the marks in the second pic? My main issue is getting them hosted. The marks on the back of the dog is different than the marks on the other dog, even though they are exactly the same. The both have the 800 mark. You can' make anything out from that small mark your arrow is pointed to.

Hi Lee - Not sure what your hosting issue would be, but tinypic would be a simple method for posting some clear close-ups of all marks found on your items.
