Help id on unique mark on buttons, waist coat chain. Thanks.

Hi, Any help on id for this mark on the back of these buttons (are they frogs?) . Very difficult to read, possibly a crab??? Also posted photos of the item, as it is an unusual type of watch chain or military chain. Any help is much appreciated as this has me baffled. Obtained in UK but possibly Europena, all tests as sterling silver. Thanks!
