HI

What was this silver topped stylised miniature shoe used for?

can anyone figure out the hallmarks? sorry i tried my best with the pics but they still aren't too clear

the first is rubbed & i can only make out the shape, 2nd is the letter h, 3rd looks like a cow or lion, and 4th is just a square blob.

measures 2 3/4 inches.

THANKS.

Hi,

The hallmarks are for London 1903. The distinctive cartouche shape still gives hope of a positive identification.

I believe such pieces were designed to be placed on the dining table for holding cigarettes for guests.

THANKS TREV

I was thinking perhaps it's for needles or similar but cigs make more sense.

Depending on its size it could be for matches. The ground glass section at the top should allow matches to be struck on it.

Agreed. That's a matchstrike.
