Hi all,
I have this Spoon with the mark of Edward Sawyer (identified on the excellent Birmingham assay office database!)
Does anybody have any information on Edward Sawyer? All I know is he is a spoonmaker registered with the assay office in the year after its opening!
Best Wishes,
Rhodri

Hello Rhodri,
I can't tell you much but he registered with the birmingham Assay Office in 1773/1774 (the Manufacturers' Register was not dated before 1801) the address given was No 19 Great Charles Street, Birmingham. His trade was given as 'spoon maker' interesting to note the only person to give this trade until late 18th/ early 19th century- Birmingham were not renowned for their flat ware. I hope this helps.
kind regards
Craig
