Hello board,

I have this Dutch silver ladle with four marks. Everything is clear to me except the maker. The date mark is definitely "Z" for 1909, and the Minerva mark has seen better days but definitely has an "A" in the head. There is a "2" underneath the lion not perfectly clear in the images but easily visible under loupe, so I'm sure about the silver purity. The maker's mark, however, is really strange compared with others I've found for this period.

Since the date mark and Minerva mark are displayed vertically, I'm thinking that this is the correct orientation for the maker's mark. I'm totally stumped after searching the limited resources of Google. It looks to me like the letter G intertwined with the letter Z and a dot outside.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Hi KilrOy,

G intertwined with the letter Z and a dot outside, that will be the mark of; J.A.A. Gerritsen, better known as; Gerritsen n.v. Nederlandse Fabriek van Gouden en Zilveren werken. Registered in the cities of Amsterdam and Zeist, this particular mark used around 1908-1924.
In 1925 to become Gerritsen & van Kempen with a factory in Zeist.
