I'm trying to research this police medal and any and all info would be appreciated, The marks are showing possible a Birmingham maker (anchor) (which doesnt seem strange as the gold coast was still under british control) but thats as far as I was able to get. The medal weighs 18.1 grams and the chain is a heavy braid that weighs 22.7 grams and is a type I have never seen before. Again any help would be appreciated.

Sorry, forgot to add that the date is 1955 based on the date mark but I'm still unable to find the maker or any info on the award itself. Thanks

Thanks for that info on maker, now if I could only figure out what the medal was for and why there is inscribed on the back 440 Yds ( figured a British terr would be metric) Thanks again.

Your medal was awarded for an athletics event. 440 yards is ¼ mile and was a standard athletics distance in pre-metric days - the equivalent of today's 400 metres. We didn't start playing with the metric system until much later and have still not come to terms with it except in science and engineering.
