Christofle numbers

HI all,

I have a Christofle silverware with a number, I am tracking down.

Riding the web I found those serial numbers, in Christofle's, are unique for each article, even when the tradition sets them for a whole batch. I also read that nobody knows the code, no record exist and probably never existed, about Christofle's serial numbers meaning.

Do you know about that ?

The pic corresponds to a serving tray, marks are hard to read but it is a Christofle from late XIX to early XX century.

The numbers on your tray are production numbers according to various Christofle publications. Whether the number refers to a batch of the same design, or is an individual production number is open to question.

On the basis of a single object with an engraved date, one author believes that he has deciphered the production code and can date objects by the production number. I think that his work is very preliminary.

The Christofle archives are in good order. There are people who could find the answer to your question, but as the Christofle Museum closed in November 2008, the archives are no longer accessible, and there are no personnel to perform this kind of research. Frustrating.
